Your Crypto Donation
Donate now in Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH) – with your sats or ether, you support Alzheimer's research.
We use your donation to fund promising research projects as well as informational materials and personal counseling.
Our projects are funded exclusively through donations. We receive no government support and accept no money from the pharmaceutical industry – this allows us to independently decide which research we fund.
Please note: Your crypto donation is anonymous. Therefore, we are unable to issue a donation receipt on our end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the AFI accept crypto donations?
Acceptance of cryptocurrencies has grown significantly in recent years. Additionally, the EU's MiCA regulation has created a legal framework for regulation. As a nonprofit organization, we want to adapt early to this development in order to receive your donations digitally. At the same time, this allows us to easily accept cryptocurrencies from legacies.
Why can I only donate in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH)?
Bitcoin and Ethereum are long-established cryptocurrencies that together account for around two-thirds of total market capitalization. All coins that comply with the Ethereum ERC-20 standard can be relatively easily exchanged for Ethereum on the Ethereum blockchain. This means our actual market coverage is even larger, while our overhead remains low.
What happens to my crypto donation?
We collect cryptocurrencies with a concrete goal: funding a dedicated research project. The donated coins are held long-term – allowing their value to grow over time until enough has accumulated for a research grant. Incoming donations can be tracked transparently via the respective blockchain explorers.

Is my crypto donation used for trading?
No, we intend to hold the cryptocurrencies long-term. No trading takes place, and exchanging them for other cryptocurrencies is not planned. Likewise, no activities in decentralized finance (DeFi) such as staking, lending, or liquidity mining are planned.
Are the energy costs for cryptocurrency mining a problem?
Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are repeatedly criticized for requiring significant computing power and thus high energy consumption. Ethereum's energy costs have already dropped by around 99% since switching to the "Proof-of-Stake" method. The costs of Bitcoin mining ("Proof-of-Work") remain high, but approximately 42% of the energy used already comes from renewable sources. Further development toward greater sustainability is foreseeable – if only for cost reasons.
